The topic of desire has really been on my heart latley, and I have been really wanting to discuss it with all of you bloggers. In my experience Christ gives us longings of the heart. Some he fulfills some he leaves still longing, still open, bare, and vulnerable. I have always wondered why would he do that? Why would he want to leave us miserable with a desire that is unfulfilled. Then I got my answer in the gospel for today:
Luke 6:20-26:
Raising his eyes toward his disciples Jesus said:
"Blessed are you who are poor, for the kingdom of God is yours.
Blessed are you who are now hungry, for you will be satisfied.
Blessed are you who are now weeping, for you will laugh.
Blessed are you when people hate you, and when they exclude and insult you, and denounce your name as evil on account of the Son of Man.
Rejoice and leap for joy on that day! Behold, your reward will be great in heaven. For their ancestors treated the prophets in the same way.
But woe to you who are rich, for you have received your consolation.
But woe to you who are filled now, for you will be hungry.
Woe to you who laugh now, for you will grieve and weep.
Woe to you when all speak well of you, for their ancestors treated the false prophets in this way."
On reflecting with the gospel, the Holy Spirit struck me with its truth. Christ plants these desires in our hearts so that we may desire heaven!! Simple right?
These past few days I have been going to Christ every morning with the desires of my heart, leaving myself vulnerable. Truthfully it has been extremely painful because welll...I desire to be loved, and it hurts when I'm not. I desire to be chosen, and it hurts when I'm not. I desire to be whole, and well it hurts when I'm not. But, Christ has told me to not try and fill these desires with worldy things. "It may feel like you are filled now, but you will be hungry. You may have a false sense of happiness, but you will weep. Wait for heaven, my child" are his words to you and me.
I am so thankful for the desires he has fulfilled which have given me a glimpse of heavenly peace. I pray that we all may have the grace to await the fulfillment of our desires in heaven.
